Blood Baron: Portrait and Tragedy

In my opinion, the Blood Baron is the most dramatic strong character of the third witcher. His story, the drama of his life, repentance, self -flagellation, the cross, which he will have to carry until the end of his life – all this makes the baron a real, alive and forcing us to condemn him and still worry about him. Therefore, in my section “Portrait and Tragedy” I want to express my opinion about this character and try to understand what exactly makes the baron so strong character.
So, let’s go.

Why does the story of the baron catch us so strong? The fact is that this quest is built according to the classical and never obsolete Greek drama. We see a causal connection between the actions of the baron (he drank and periodically beat his wife) and his subsequent fate. Meanwhile, we, as spectators or players, until the last cannot predict where this or that upwards of this story will turn. We see the sincere repentance of the character, his willingness to give everything, even his life, in order to correct his most important mistake.

Throughout the history of mankind, the playwrights of various Agentspinscasino suits concerned the topic of atonement and remorse.
This topic concerned Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, Goethe and many others. However, this topic was and remains one of the most difficult in the art of drama. The scriptwriters of the Third Witcher succeeded.
Yes, the bloody baron is a product of the fantasy of the scriptwriters of the third witcher, and not the pen of Sapkovsky, which gives the character even more value and shows what level they have achieved over these 10 years.

Despite the fact that in life we ​​rarely meet people with a pronounced temperament, a bloody baron is a typical choler. His mood changes extremely quickly, subject to emotional outbreaks, but these impulses are quickly exhausted. He is immensely loves his wife and daughter, but from time to time he shows strong aggression in relation to them, which alcohol is to blame. He sincerely thinks (and this is probably not meaningless) that he is a good and kind person – and only vodka makes him a monster.
Baron has great leadership qualities, thanks to which, as well as his strong -willed qualities, he achieved success and built a huge castle for himself. Subordinates are afraid of him, but respect.

The first thing I want to say is the baron (or, if more convenient, Philip Stenger) has a mysterious Slavic mentality. There are many videos in YouTube in which the authors say that the third witcher is not Slavic, but rather European fantasy. However, such characters as a bloody baron show that in the game of Slavic truly there are many.
He drinks vodka, pouring it into small glasses from the height of the skyscraper, shed and not seeing anything bad in it, lives on the full, on a scale. Hamit and dares, but at the same time remains a deeply sensual and kind person. Loves life and at the same time completely indifferent to it. Impressiveness is quite harmoniously combined with aggression. And the emotional pendulum shifts from depression to the thirst for life in a matter of seconds. And from these vivid contradictions and such an exciting character is born.

Separately, it is worth mentioning voice acting. She is magnificent. Perhaps it was impossible to voice the baron better than it was done in Russian localization. For comparison, let’s listen to the English voice acting, which, however, is also very good.
However, how Baron was voiced by Sergey Chikhachev is beyond praise.

The most important value of the bloody baron is the family – wife and daughter. These are two people whom he loves more than anything else. But the dramaturgy of this story is precisely that the baron loses both of them at one moment and the moment of redemption comes, which manifests itself in two endings of the quest. The strong dramaturgy of the third witcher appears even here – whatever the ending, it is still tragic. It is probably a tragic because of the fact that some mistakes simply cannot be corrected. Simply because these are the laws of drama and tragedy, and maybe life itself.
